Rex It uses a 3D model as input. Where do you get FreeMill. As always - do a Google search and you will easily find it!!!! Cheers. Rex Alot of people think it is a video card driver problem. It will then let you go back and change the parting plane without errors.strange but true. Shrunk Freemill screen until only the rightmost portion showed, and bingo, it worked. The image was drawn in Alibre, and exported as a stl file. Using XP, with nVidia GeForce FX 5200 256mb in a Dell Precision workstation with 4MB of memory. This sanding would have to be done even if these pieces were carved, so what seems like limitations to some are not to a furniture maker. The time saved drawing these pieces once in Alibre, then using Freemill and MACH3 with my small 3-axis router is a small trade-off when compared to having to sand the finished piece just a bit more. The site is 100% free to join and use, so join today! It does not repeat content from that chapter, because it assumes you have the book, and have read the chapter. Workflow is simply the method we use to take a piece of raw material and turn it into a finished article. It is the steps we take, and the methods we use, to do the work that’s required. For a straightforward one-off job, we may use a few simple operations, like a turning operation, some filing, and a cut with a hacksaw. But most of us know quite well that a workshop project can easily involve a considerable time in planning the best way to do a job, before actually doing it; and some jobs must be done in a specific order, otherwise we end up not being able to grip the work, or we foul a cutter or are left with an impossible machining setup. For repetition work, workflow is important to optimise the manufacturing process and allow us to do the work efficiently. It is surprisingly easy to design parts which cannot be manufactured easily, if at all. Many of the commercially available castings we might use in the workshop have extra bits cast into the pattern.

Internet research indictated that it might have something to do with the display adapter and OpenGL. My card is a Radeon X300. I have advised MecSoft. While this software is limited (well, it is free!) it will do the sort of 3D sculpting that I need, in conjunction with Rhino.3dm models. It will output an APT file which I convert for use with a Dynamyte DM2400 bench top mill. I am a hobby user..

Other software systems are available, and they do essentially the same job, so it is relatively easy to change from one to another. It does, though, depend on a familiarity with Linux, and although arguably more flexible than Mach3 in some ways, that flexibility can only be fully achieved through a greater knowledge of software and computing skills. The user provides a set of commands which the computer system interprets to produce control signals for motors attached to the machine tool, to move the work or a tool or both. Most kernels are designed to work as part of a specific Operating System (OS) such as a particular version of Windows or Mac OS or Linux, and are designed to provide “abstraction” between the OS and the hardware in the computer system, relieving the rest of the OS, and all the other software in the computer system, from having to deal with the excruciating detail required to control the hardware. Instead, the rest of the OS simply passes control requests to the kernel. The kernel uses device drivers (little bits of software specific to particular hardware devices) to control individual pieces of hardware in the system. You may have come across some of these device drivers, especially if you use the Windows OS. Each time you add a new piece of hardware to a computer system, the OS requires a device driver for that hardware. High level programs hide the detail of the manipulation of the CPU, memory and peripherals from the user by letting the OS and the kernel handle those processes. To set Mach3 up to control a specific machine we will need to enter appropriate settings within Mach3 to allow that high level package to communicate effectively with the kernel, to make sure the correct signals are sent out to the peripheral motors or received from the sensors on the machine. On a machine supplied as a complete package along with software, those settings should have been entered as the machine was commissioned, before delivery.

These form chucking pieces, and although they are not required on the finished article, they are needed to allow the part to be gripped in a chuck or clamped to a mill table for the rest of the workpiece to be machined.Information from the CAD program can then be used to enable Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAM) which makes use of CNC machines to produce finished workpieces. The key to this is software for CAD, CAM and CNC, along with a compatible CNC machine. For some tasks, it is quicker and easier to do some of the stages manually, but in other cases it is impossible to do without all the elements of the full system. I had some turned vases which needed simple bases to sit on, to complete the effect I wanted to achieve. The advantages of using CNC for this job were that the final cut gave me a finished object which only required the edges to be burnished by hand, but the program cut three bases of the same size, then, with just a few extra instructions cut a single larger base, and all without moving the workpiece. Yes; the job could have been done using a rotary table in a manual mill. It would not have been any easier, though; and it would have taken much more time to set up the blanks before machining each plinth. Lacking years of practice in hand engraving, I can’t think of a way of doing this manually, without an engraving machine. Even then, the job would have required some means of using the sketch to guide the cutter, and that introduces a significant element of variability. In this case, CNC is much quicker and much more reliable. That core software lies at the heart of much of the CNC control software currently in use industrially, as well as in the home workshop. There is room, though, for systems to add facilities or to interpret unassigned commands in a specific way, and commercial systems inevitably differ in detail as manufacturers attempt to sell systems with added bells and whistles.

The software allows co-ordinated movement of the various parts of the CNC machine, and that is why the fact that Windows is not a real-time OS makes life so challenging for Mach3, under the bonnet. In fact, the key to the success of Mach3 is the very cunning timer it creates within the computer, so that signals are sent to stepper motors or servos at a consistent and nearly-real-time rate. This is far from a simple undertaking, and requires Mach3 to effectively bypass parts of the Windows OS to create a timing system largely independent of Windows. It would be just as easy to control a horizontal mill, but the vertical mill tends to be more versatile, so that’s what we will deal with, at least for now. What is important is the position of the Controlled Point (CP), a specific point which defines the position of the tool in relation to the workpiece. The Controlled Point is usually a point at the end of the tool, aligned with the vertical axis of the spindle. Where these are rotary axes, they are defined as: Because we are likely to be using that same rotary table as an axis, it can remain plugged into the same connector and be controlled by the A axis signals no matter its orientation, horizontal or vertical. We will leave B and C for the moment, because four axes are quite enough for most tasks. You should be aware that most CNC software can simultaneously control and make co-ordinated movements in up to 6 axes, because the NIST core software built into most CNC software packages provides that control. In practice, that means a stepper motor or a servo. A stepper motor is a brushless DC (direct current) motor which is designed so that its shaft can make small rotary movements called “steps”, with a typical stepper motor being capable of 200 steps, each of 1.8 degrees, as it makes a single full rotation of the shaft.

They can be altered later, though, if need be. On a home-constructed machine, it is up to the user to enter appropriate settings. Fortunately, it is not difficult. It wouldn’t be much use if a tool arrived in position after the workpiece had moved to some other position. Some operating systems are designed to operate in real-time, while most others do their best, succeeding to varying degrees. This is a significant consideration, and, in the real world, it requires some awareness of the problem and some reasonable compromises to achieve a performance close enough to real-time to control a CNC system with sufficient accuracy to allow it to produce accurate work. One strategy is to use an OS like Linux which can be made to operate close to real-time, another is to use a non-real-time OS like Windows but take steps to make the signal handling capabilities sufficiently close to real-time to allow CNC systems to function. This involves a lot of complex techniques, most of which we can afford to ignore. Instead, we can remain blissfully ignorant as we use Mach3 as a high-level package designed to be convenient for humans to operate. Most of these settings need to be made just once, for a specific machine, but a few can be altered from time to time, depending on how we want the machine to behave. The main purpose of the settings is to direct the kernel to use appropriate connections to the CNC motors and sensors, so they provide a way for abstraction to take place. Once the kernel has the settings, there should be no need to change these unless the basic physical setup of the CNC machine, its motors and sensors, changes. The settings are stored in a file and each time Mach3 starts up it will load the file and use those settings. The NIST core software built into Mach3 interprets the commands and turns those into instructions which can be passed to the kernel to control the CNC machine.

In addition, support for Windows XP is being withdrawn by Microsoft, so that while computers with XP will continue to run, there will be no further updates, bug fixes or modifications. This is not a serious problem at present, but you should be aware that Windows 7 and 8 are the systems which are currently supported by Microsoft. There is no available information about Mach3 running under Windows 8 at present. Most modern laptops discontinued the use of the parallel port some time ago, and it has largely been superseded by the USB port and the network port on most laptops and desktops. USB converters are available, but need careful choice as users report that many of these do not work as well as is required for Mach3 and other CNC programs, possibly because they do not send a full range of signals through the connectors. However; using a Motion Controller solves this problem (see later section). Most off-the-shelf low or medium-priced computers will have on-board integrated video, because it is a cheap way for a manufacturer to provide video outputs on a complete computer. The problem with this is that integrated video tends to interfere with some functions of the operation of the kernel and makes life difficult for Mach3. The recommendation is that integrated video is disabled, and a separate video card is used instead. In this context, a “card” is a separate circuit board which is inserted into a “slot” or connector on the main computer motherboard. This aids the stability of Mach3 signals to a CNC machine. Laptops generally have integrated video and few have the extra “slots” required for additional cards. Experience suggests that laptops do work with Mach3, but it’s a hit or miss, and Mach support recommends you do not use a laptop, for the simple reason that if a specific laptop does not work with Mach3, there are no real options except to use a different make or model of laptop.

There is lots of discussion on this on the various forums It comprises an ASUS P4P800E motherboard (now obsolete) with 8Gb ram, a separate video card and a separate card for the parallel printer port. This is much more memory than is required, of course, but effectively means there is no practical limit on what I can do with the machine, for CNC tasks involving Mach3 or other control software I use. When not using Mach3, I can also run other CAD and CAM programmes with ease, and simultaneously, if I wish. I tend not to do that, preferring to run them on a separate machine, elsewhere; but the capability is there, for a small additional cost. The computer is built into a rack mount box, and has two removable hard disk drives so that I can swap from Windows to Linux and from one version of Windows to another. Totally unnecessary, but quite handy. The issue is the extent to which Mach3 can send out signals in near-real-time. Latency refers to the time delay introduced as signals pass through a system. A slight delay may cause an error in positioning the cutting tool. Where latency is constant, some of its effects can be offset. Unlike latency, jitter varies over time, so is less predictable. In machining, jitter can affect surface finish, as the slides speed up and slow down when they are supposed to be moving at a constant speed. This is important, and it needs to be dealt with when setting up Mach3 and the stepper driver hardware. These are normally referred to as step-direction signals. The signals coming from the computer have no real power, and are at a much lower voltage than the steppers require. In addition, the steppers actually require something more complex than a train of pulses, because the coils inside the stepper motor need to be turned on and off in a particular sequence.

Whereas a conventional DC motor will spin as long as power is applied, then coast to a stop, a stepper motor will only appear to spin if it is rapidly moved in a series of steps. So although this is a rotary device, its rotation can be accurately and repeatably controlled. A typical movement may consist of several complete rotations and a partial rotation, all accomplished by making a series of steps. Typically, a stepper motor is controlled using two signals; a step signal to make the motor take a step, and a direction signal to control the direction of rotation. This means it is a relatively simple task to write a program to control the rotation of a stepper motor. It is the kind of programming task typically undertaken by students learning programming, and it has become a popular task for hobbyists and students using the Raspberry Pi computer, the Arduino and lots of other similar systems. This is called a stepper controller and it contains the drive electronics. Nowadays, powerful stepper motors are available at reasonable cost, and there are standard tried and tested electronic devices available to allow accurate control. Collective experience has taught us there are good solutions. There is a trade-off in motor size and cost, and while I favour larger motors which can loaf along well within their capacity, they are more expensive, and require larger power supplies than smaller steppers. In fact three are rebranded Geckodrive units supplied under a UK manufacturer’s brand name. The fourth is a Gecko-branded unit. The steppers run at up to 80 volts, and the power supply can provide 78 volts at 30 amps, so it is very much more powerful than most smaller commercial units, and rather more powerful than is required. This power supply has soft-start, over-voltage protection, and current limiting, to prevent disaster and to protect the electronic motor drive units.

The newest Geckodrive unit, the G203X, has considerable protection built in, so that a simpler power supply may suffice. Electronics in the servo will continue to move the motor until the commanded position is reached. Although a stepper motor may receive a series of step and direction signals, there is no way of checking whether it has been able to carry out those steps or whether the motor has stalled, perhaps because a slide has jammed. Under the same circumstances, a servo motor will continue to indicate an error until it finally manages to reach the commanded position. In fact, the main issue is likely to be whether a slide has been moved to a particular position. Where there is backlash in a feedscrew, and the control software does not take this into account, any reversal in direction will result in some lost motion due to the backlash using up some of the rotation of the feedscrew. The stepper might carry out the required rotation, but the slide will stop short of the intended position. There are ways of dealing with this, in software, but this needs to be set up within Mach3. Servos are more expensive and have more complex drive electronics. There are, however, a couple of applications which can really only be effectively achieved using small servos, and these include sophisticated rotary axes, and some lathe headstock applications. It simply needs to be as fast as is required to control the parts of CNC machine as fast as they needs to move. How fast is that? Realistically, a medium spec computer should do the job, but the devil is in the detail, of course. The Mach support website at www.machsupport.com states the minimum specifications required. However; Windows XP is no longer available for purchase, and I would caution you against copies available on some of the popular websites, as these may not pass the Microsoft Advantage licence check.

So; we need to send the step and direction signals from the computer to some drive electronics (the stepper controller) which generate the appropriate sequence of signals to the stepper coils by taking account of the direction in which the stepper has to turn, and alter voltage and current levels to make the stepper motor turn. Step and direction signals from the computer are turned into appropriate high voltage and high current signals which are fed to the stepper motor to make it turn in sympathy with the step and direction signals. Easy really, if you are an electronics engineer; a useful black box if you are an ordinary mortal. There are some good reasons for this: If soldering is not your forte, this is a significant simplification, as most connections can be made using screw-down connectors. When Mach3 runs, it can be instructed to send out a continuous stream of pulses and the charge pump will allow the breakout board to operate while it is receiving those pulses. If the pulses from Mach3 stop, the breakout board will recognise this as a fault and will stop sending out signals to the stepper drive electronics, effectively stopping the machine. This can be done without a breakout board, but, again, it is conveniently done using the handy connectors on the board. This can be important. This is a very useful facility. There have been some complaints that some breakout boards introduce a delay in processing the signals from the computer before onward transmission to the drive electronics (i.e. they have built-in latency). Buying a breakout board from abroad is not a great problem via the internet, to be sure, but postage and import taxes add considerably to the cost. Some motion controllers are mounted internally, inside the computer, as plug in cards, but the most popular choice for Mach3 is an external motion controller which connects to the computer via the USB port. This provides an ideal solution for a laptop.

Because the motion controller deals only with creating and sending the appropriate signals to the drive electronics, it can do this in real time, at high speed, bringing significant benefits. On the computer, the OS and the kernel attempt to deal with lots of other tasks at the same time, to move information around the computer, deal with the keyboard and a host of other tasks, which introduces unwanted and variable delays leading to jitter, and tends to slow the operation of Mach3. This limits the speed of machining, and means that the motion of the axes tends to be slightly variable, and the results of that may be visible in the surface finish as the feedrate of the tool varies slightly. That redirects signals from Mach3 intended for the parallel port, and sends corresponding signals to the SmoothStepper via the computer’s USB port. Although these are a recent development, motion controllers provide an effective way of controlling a CNC machine. It’s a good solution, but note that while some motion controllers work with LinuxCNC, SmoothStepper does not yet offer the required drivers. This allows the breakout board to offer additional connectors for relays etc. Here’s the signal path when using both a motion controller and a breakout board: That’s Mach3. If you are a good programmer, you will be able to do a bit more, but there are limits, and Mach3 on its own is not enough to really make the most of CNC machining in the home workshop. All workpieces in the real world are 3 dimensional, but many machining operations mainly involve movements of the Controlled Point in 2 dimensions, so although many modern CAD programs can produce designs in 3D, this is not helpful for most milling operations, because the format of the data (information in computer-readable form) from 2D and 3D designs is fundamentally different, which causes problems in later stages of the process when the data is translated into movements of the slides. So 2D and 2?

D machining covers the vast majority of what is required in the home workshop. True 3D machining is a rather different animal, and is outwith the capability of home machinists, at present. How, for example, could you machine a fully 3D object. Imagine machining a sphere containing a contoured map of the world, with the mountains, continents, oceans and rivers. How could you hold the workpiece so that this could be done in one work setup. How could you machine the “underside”. The most likely practical solution on a conventionally constructed mill would be to use multiple work setups in which you set up a block of material and machine part of it, then change the position of the workpiece and machine the next part, and so on. That is not 3D machining; it is a series of 2?D machining operations. We will deal with the challenge of machining 3D objects, in this series, but you should be aware that this will involve techniques to allow 3D objects to be created using 2D and 2?D machining techniques on a conventional mill, and that will involve specific work-arounds. In practice, we will use 2D machining for lots of workpieces, and 2?D machining for the rest. Normally, this will involve working with information from a CAD program, but the same process can be carried out with a manually-created design, although this is neither as convenient nor as efficient, and anything other than the simplest of shapes is better dealt with by using CAD then CAM techniques. Because the CAD and CAM stages of the process are so closely linked, some programs combine both functions, and some of the software we will use in this series of articles do just that. These are essentially CAM programs which incorporate CAD capability. The output of the CAM program needs to be prepared differently for each specific CNC program, so it is important that the CAM program has that capability. In fact, most can output in more than one form for Mach3, depending on how you, as the user, want Mach3 to behave.

Many can also output data in a form suitable for LinuxCNC (although some still refer to that software as EMC or EMC2). The basic requirement is that a CAD program must be able to output data in a standard DXF format. This is Autodesk’s longstanding AutoCAD file format which has become a universal standard. There are various versions of this, but most CAM programs can cope with many of these, so this is the standard format we must look for. This also means that you can take a DXF file from elsewhere, such as one prepared by someone else, and use it in your CAM program, allowing you to machine an object using a file obtained from elsewhere. This is important, as it means you do not always need to design a workpiece yourself, but can still machine the object. That’s a bonus, of course. As always, you get what you pay for, but there are some exceptions, with some good software available under the GNU or GPL General Public Licence system. The current tendency, industrially, is to use 3D software such as AutoDesk’s Inventor or the 3D version of the old favourite AutoCAD (which takes the form of 3D capability within the basic 2D AutoCAD), RhinoCAD 3D, TurboCAD 3D and any of many others. These are hugely capable programs, but they come at a considerable cost, and they output files in a format which not only differs from the standard 2D formats but requires a different CAM program to prepare for machining. We will consider machining designs prepared in a 3D CAD package separately, later. It’s an interesting challenge but has its own particular requirements. Some low cost or free CAM packages exist and are particularly useful for specific machining tasks like milling circuit boards, but, again, the tendency is to add CAM capability to existing design programs. GSimple is a typical free CAM program, developed by an enthusiast and quite capable within specific limits. It cannot deal with DXF files containing “blocks” for example. Nor can it machine islands within pockets.

For some workpieces, those are serious limitations. It has been created by a commercial company, but is provided free using a well-known model in which good software if provided free to (a) entice you to pay for training, and (b) entice you to upgrade to the full commercial product. This works well for end-users who can read the manuals and who do not need the full commercial product. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding. You only get 1 type of 3d profiling, and 2 types of cutters as I recall (ball, square). I ended up purchasing a copy of Alibre and AlibreCAM today. I have been playing with the demos for the last week and a half and everything seems pretty usable after some re-training (most of my experience is with SolidWorks). Some of it could be related to your controller too, depending on whether the G-code is using cutter comp, and how your controller implements that. I have also had some programs be very creating with retracting and in-feeding the cutter. See our code implementation guide for more details. The Grand Lodge then moves to the Hall which is to be dedicated, in the following form of procession:In all Masonic processions, the brethren open to the right and left, as far as the Grand Tiler, and the Grand officers and regalia pass through—the brethren being uncovered. The Lodge is then placed in the center, and the Grand Master having taken the chair, under a canopy of state, the Grand officers and the Masters and Wardens of the Lodges, etc., repair to the places previously prepared for their reception. The five Orders are arranged near the Lodge, and the gold and silver pitchers, with the corn, wine, and oil, are placed upon it. Near it stands a pedestal, with the Bible open, and the square and compasses laid thereon, and upon another pedestal, the Book of Constitutions. These arrangements being made, the following Anthem, or some other appropriate one, is sung:See Help:Sheet music for formatting instructions They are desirous that the same should be examined by the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge, and if it should meet their approbation, that it should be solemnly dedicated to Masonic purposes agreeably to ancient form and usage. Let Faith be the foundation of our Hope, and Charity the fruit of our obedience to thy revealed will.May every discordant passion be here banished from our bosom. May we here meet in thy presence as a band of brethren, who were created by the same Almighty Parent, are daily sustained by the same beneficent hand, and are traveling the same road to the gates of death. May we here have thy Holy Word always present to our mind, and religion, and virtue, love, harmony, and peaceful joy reigning triumphant in our hearts. And when the time of our labor is drawing near to an end, and the pillar of our strength is declining to the ground, graciously enable us to pass through the valley of the shadow of death, supported by thy rod and thy staff, to those mansions beyond the skies where love, and peace, and joy forever reign before thy throne.—Amen.

Too bad the Kindle edition of this classic work is so incomplete and unreadable. There are pages missing let alone that it's not smartphone friendly. You'd have better luck buying a copy in print.I have a kindle 2. Maybe its better on the DX. Its almost worthless because its so hard to read, and my eyes are pretty good. Its a great book to read if you can see what it says. I borrowed the original and it's the same thing. Just hard to see. Plus you can NOT adjust the text size. It stays super small no matter what. Good luck. One of many pieces to gain understandingThere is a lot to learn here. Unfortunately, he wrote this book in 19th century intellectual prose, which is cumbersome by today's standards. So it takes a bit of work to get through. This new edition is simply a modern publisher's photocopy of the original, and a very few sections of the text are hard to see. But those gripes aside, it's well worth reading. As a 32nd degree Mason, I found it quite useful and illuminating, and I recommend it to the curious and the Mason. It was copyrighted in 1862. It has in credible explanations of various symbols such as the bee hive, the spade(check out the cia's symbol), the all seeing eye of God. It even offer's the funeral service. I suggest it highely. No other Masonic book moved me as much as this.Bit more perhaps on those that protect each other at whatever consequences to others.Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1 In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. The order of procession is read by the Grand Secretary, and a general charge respecting propriety of behavior given by the Grand Master.

“Every human being has a claim upon our good offices,” and we are to “endeavor to add to the common stock of knowledge and understanding,.” Such are the admonitions which we receive. Such is the opportunity which Freemasonry offers us. We begin the journey from the shadows in the west toward the illuminated east. It is a journey of individual striving and personal commitment, yet it is not intended that we should travel alone or without assistance. From generation to generation, the art and the science of the builder was transmitted through a program of education within the Craft. Upon this instruction of the apprentice rested both the continuance of the art and the growth of the science. In the position of the “Intender,” we find an early expression of the importance of a continuing program of education within the active and well-functioning lodge. His is the opportunity to assist the accepted candidate and the new mason in building a Masonic foundation. His is the challenge to encourage the new mason’s efforts, to provide direction, and to give a proper scope to the abilities of each individual whom he has the privilege of helping. But it is not the new mason only who is the beneficiary in this process, of Masonic education, for through the instructional process the teacher comes to more fully understand the meaning of his own profession as a Freemason. When the potential of Freemasonry is consummated in the reality of a man’s life, it is for him a cosmic event. The purpose of any program in Masonic education is to assure that there will be that light in full measure. It is a challenge of the highest order, for often the opportunity of capturing the interest and of inspiring the commitment of a man to the way of the Freemason comes but once and with his knock upon the lodge door. Will we raise a man into the fellowship and wisdom of the Craft. This is the challenge.

When the Grand Master arrives at the East, the music ceases, and the Senior Grand Warden presents him with the vessel of wine, which he sprinkles over the Lodge, saying:When the Grand Master arrives at the East, the music ceases, and the Deputy Grand Master presents him with the vessel of oil, which he sprinkles over the Lodge, saying:Let all the people of the earth know thy Name, and fear thee. Let all the people know that this house is built and consecrated to thy name.Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens can not contain thee; how much less this house that we have built! For they be thy people, and thine inheritance. For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth to be thine inheritance. The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; let him not leave us, nor forsake us: that he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he has commanded. The grand procession is resumed, and after marching three times round the hall, with the Lodge, as at entrance, during which a grand piece of music is performed, the procession returns to the place whence it set out, where the laws of the Order are rehearsed, and the Grand Lodge is closed in ample form.By using this site, you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. A comparative study was conducted of educational plans and educational manuals employed in other grand jurisdictions, and the advice of prominent Maine masons was sought and compiled. The resulting plan and the draft for an accompanying instructor’s manual was “field tested” by the committee by direction of Most Worshipful C. Ross Buzzell and through the cooperation of forty lodges within the state. Each of us has quickly learned that this improvement is not a passive process. We are to improve both through active study and by doing. Service and comprehension become our watchwords.

Those parts of the manual which employ the lecture mode do so only as a means of providing a general format while suggesting important considerations which should be considered in a “give-and-take” experience carried on by the instructor and the new mason. The old proverb which says “Tell me and I shall forget, show me and I will remember, involve me and I shall understand” contains a good deal of wisdom. Each section is subdivided into three parts. The first part of each section attempts to set the tone and to provide an overview. The second part may be described as an “on-sight visitation” in which the candidate is provided with an opportunity of preparing for or reviewing each step in his Masonic experience provided in the degree work. The third part contains background material and suggests topics for use in discussing the Pollard Plan Booklets. This program represents a vital part of the entire educational effort. Held in open lodge, this program gives the opportunity for welcoming the new master mason into the fellowship of his lodge and for introducing him to the activities and practices of the Craft when assembled on the level. The following plan represents a recommended format. When used the following may be considered. He shall assign instructors, schedule instruction sessions, monitor the quality of instruction, make available instructional materials, and assist in the training of instructors. In addition, the Coordinator shall keep a record of the educational progress of each candidate including a record of the giving of the ritual lessons before the lodge. (See Candidate Education Record Sheet.) However, such a program would not relieve the master of each lodge from the responsibility of assuring that candidates and new masons of his lodge are receiving adequate, individualized instruction. Under such conditions it will be the master’s duty to see that proper records are kept showing the educational progress of each candidate.

In those cases where lodges are pooling their educational programs, the representatives shall assist in the coordination. Of particular importance is the representative’s role in relaying the field experience of the coordinators and instructors to the Committee on Masonic Education for the purposes of program evaluation and revision. As Masonic educators, we are dependent upon feedback gained during actual instruction if we are to continually improve our educational endeavors. Without such a willingness on the part of the individual, the Fraternity can contribute little to his experience and to his Masonic growth. Correlatively, the candidate and new mason have equal right to expect from the Fraternity ample instruction and assistance. Consider the spectrum which confronts the new mason: If we expect him to find his way, to build a proper foundation, and to feel a sense of belonging as a working member of his lodge, he must have proper help. The need for Masonic instruction of the finest caliber beyond that provided in our degree work is as obvious as it is essential. We should complete this phrase by adding proper help for the individual candidate and new master mason. Masonic education, at its best, is personalized education based upon universal truths. It is a process of instruction which capitalizes upon the candidate’s strengths and which matches the instruction to the means by which he learns most readily. The assumption that the ends justify the means is a dangerous one, for the means by which we deal with other human beings inevitably shape the end product. The task of the Masonic instructor, therefore, is not one of indoctrination, but rather of assisting in the growing comprehension of a new brother. The direction and the storehouse of wisdom for such a journey in growth is contained within the ritual of Freemasonry. The role of the Masonic instructor is to accompany the new brother in his journey from the west toward the East and to do so with understanding and inspiration. The spiritual as well as the intellectual growth of mankind has long developed by means of this same vehicle which begins with what the hands can touch and with what is common in our experience and which ends in the abstract which only the soul and the mind can grasp. The vehicle of Masonic ritualistic instruction is especially well suited to the fundamental goals of the Fraternity.

A chief aim of the Masonic instructor should be to assist the new mason in exploring the wealth of meaning provided in the symbolism, allegory, and teachings of Craft Masonry. Such a belief emphasizes the importance of the individual and presents the purpose of life as an on-going quest for fulfillment and, the attainment of wisdom and compassion. At every step, the methods adopted for use in Programs of Masonic instruction must assist the individual mason in his progress toward voluntary incorporation of Freemasonry’s wisdom and inspiration within his own understanding and convictions. Much is known about this process, about effective teaching practice and about the variability of learning styles. IT IS NOT EXPECTED THAT THE MASONIC INSTRUCTOR WILL BE A MASTER TEACHER; however, he will find a study of the elements of good teaching practice well worth the effort. One of the great advantages of a commitment to Masonic education is the inevitable growth of instructor himself both in his knowledge of Freemasonry and in his ability to help a new brother. While the presentation offered in this manual is not the only form which a Masonic educational process can take, the manual does underscore many essentials in the development of Masonic understanding. It brings together a great deal of Masonic information along with suggestions for varied approaches thus saving the Masonic instructor much time in research and in preparation. Research, especially in the area of adult education, demonstrates that we retain very little of what we are exposed to through the lecture method. Our understanding and retention of facts and concepts is greatly facilitated by participation in a dialogue and in “hands-on” experiences where all our senses are brought into play.

Anyone who truly wishes to understand the history of Freemasonry; its Lodges, Grand Lodges, the Scottish and York Rites, Knights Templar, and much more. Highly recommended. Some of your own Grand Lodge laws may supercede these written laws, however, this book is foundational to understanding and practicing Masonic law. It will answer questions such as: Is Freemasonry Good or Evil. Will I really have to ride a goat. What do all these strange symbols mean to a Freemason. What are all these secrets which are so secret that members cannot share them with their wives? To those who truly study Freemasonry's history, its symbols, and its ritual, you will learn that the Bible you were given at your initiation is not simply a token book, gifted to you to be placed into a drawer, and kept as a keepsake. Much of the archaically written ritual which you are learning is taken directly from biblical scriptures.

Once you understand the meaning of the Freemason symbols, coupled with the biblical phrases within the ritual, learning ritual becomes much easier because it will all come together into an understandable whole, (and, actually make sense), rather than simply memorizing pages and pages which contain a lot of strange words and phrases. Once you see the correlation, please mentor others in your lodge so they too, can understand and benefit. Here is an example of biblical Masonic Degree Verse scriptures used within ritual, their meanings, and the correlation to the different stages in every man's life. The Internet is full of Masonic theories and dubious information so here is a quick look at what it is like within a Freemasons’ Lodge, the layout, regalia, what people do and what is expected of a new member. The dress codes in all Lodges are quite similar and include: Although there are a number of different types of aprons within Freemasonry the three main ones are pure white, white with two light blue rosettes and a much more ornate one with three light blue rosettes, white background, light blue surround and silver tassels. It is at this stage that you are presented with your first apron, that of being plain white. The next stage of progression is that of becoming a Fellow Craft and this is the Second Degree in Freemasonry. In this stage or degree you are presented with a white apron with two light blue rosettes at its base. The Third Degree in Freemasonry is when you are made a Master Mason and you are then allowed to wear the more ornate of the three aprons with the white background, light blue surround, three light blue rosettes and silver tassels. From the first time you enter a Lodge Room and during the currency of your Masonic career it will always look the same and become very familiar, no matter if it is your Lodge or you are a visiting Brother to another Lodge. In the East, South and West there are pedestals where the senior officers of Lodge sit.

They are the Worshipful Master (East), the Senior Warden (West) and the Junior Warden (South). The North side of the Lodge Room is where the Secretary and Treasurer sit. You will immediately recognise him as he holds a sword as is befitting his role within the Lodge. To the right of him is the Senior Warden and then to his right is the Junior Deacon. To the right of the Junior Deacon sits the Organist. If there is a Junior Deacon it must then follow that there is a Senior Deacon. He sits in the North of the Lodge Room to the right of the Worshipful Master. To the left of the Senior Deacon sit the Almoner and Charity Steward. Following round from them and in the South of the Lodge Room and to the right of the Junior Warden, sits the Director of Ceremonies and the Assistant Director of Ceremonies. Stewards are the most junior of the Lodge officers and is usually the starting point for most Brethren in their Masonic progression. The positions of the Lodge officers are fixed but not every Brother attending the Lodge meeting will be an officer of the Lodge. As an Entered Apprentice and even as far as being a Master Mason (Lodge dependant), you would sit left of the Junior Warden and Secretary; that is towards the Senior Warden’s pedestal in the West. To the right of the Secretary and Senior Warden’s pedestal would sit Grand Lodge Officers and Provincial Grand Lodge Officers, the former having the higher rank. In some Lodges it is customary for all visiting Brethren to sit near to the Worshipful Master, irrespective of rank. As a rule of thumb for a new Brother you would be advised to keep towards the West unless invited otherwise. It is normal that each year the Brethren holding these offices would move to the next office up the chain, until they reach the position of Worshipful Master. The recognised route of progression is: An example jewel is shown beside each office listed.

A new Master is elected every year by the Brethren of the Lodge and then installed into his office in an Installation Ceremony. The Worshipful Master has his place in the East of the Lodge, behind a pedestal. All the ceremonies are usually conducted by the Worship Master, with the assistance of the officers of the Lodge. Being installed as the Worship Master is the highest honour a Lodge can award one its members. The Senior Warden sits in the West of the Lodge facing the Worship Master and the Junior Warden sits in the South of the Lodge facing the Secretary and the Treasurer. It is the role of the Junior Warden to ensure that no unqualified persons enter the Lodge Room. Although their roles are different they are there to assist the Worshipful Master in his duties and help with the smooth running of the Lodge meeting. Deacons can also be identified as they carry a staff known as a wand as a mark of their office. A Steward’s main job is to assist at the dinner following the meeting, which is known as the Social Board. These offices are usually held by Brethren for a number of years to allow for continuity and experience within the roles. The Non Progressive Officers are appointed or re appointed each year by the Worshipful Master with the exception of the Treasurer and the Tyler who have to be elected by the Brethren of the Lodge. He is normally the preceding Worship Master and it is his role to assist and advise the new Worshipful Master in his duties. The Immediate Past Master sits directly on the left of the Worshipful Master. It is the Chaplain’s role to lead the Brethren in these prayers. These accounts are then audited before being presented to the Brethren of the Lodge. The Treasurer also makes recommendations as to subscriptions before they are decided upon in open Lodge. He is also responsible for taking the minutes of the Lodge meeting and distributing the summons notifying the Brethren of the meeting and its agenda.

In some Lodges it is the Assistant Secretary who is responsible for making the dining arrangements. He ensures that any officer who has a role within the ceremony has an excellent working knowledge of what he has to do. He arranges practices or rehearsals to ensure that the ceremony is conducted properly. He also is responsible for the conduct and decorum within any ceremony. He is charged with maintaining contact with any widows of deceased Brethren of the Lodge and with those Brethren who may be ill or indisposed for a variety of reasons. He is also available for Brethren who may be suffering financial issues. He is also responsible for ensuring that all candidates are properly prepared before they enter the Lodge. This role is usually held by a long standing and experienced Freemason who can answer the questions that a new Brother may have. However, you may well notice that some of the Brethren (those sitting closest to the Worshipful Master) will be wearing dark blue aprons and collars. As you look around your Lodge room at all the Brethren in office or the long standing officers of Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge you need to remember that you and they all started from the same point. Freemasons like to talk about Freemasonry and all Brothers you meet will be willing to help and offer an answer to a question. This will be a tyled Lodge to conduct the business of the Lodge of Research and include at least two educational presentations. All Brothers in good standing are welcome. Proper business attire and face masks are expected. For login and password information, please contact the Master, Bro. David Daugherty, at least 24 hours in advance. All Active Members in good standing are invited to help plan for the future of the Ohio Lodge of Research. The Stated Meeting will be followed by refreshments and fellowship.

Learning All The Time 3.0 out of 5 stars I purchased this book specifically because it was by Michael Freeman, and I love some of his newer books, and because I thought perhaps it would cover studio management, which is my achilles heel at the moment. However, it is a basic book about studio photography and not studio management. The first part of the book covers Setting up a Studio, Equipment, exposure, and film. The second part of the book focuses on making pictures -- people, portraits, food, animals, still lifes, and objects are covered. I am only giving it 3 stars because it is very much a generalist book and quite dated, so it isn't as useful to a modern portrait photographer as other books. But it does contain some interesting tidbits, and some of the pictures are quite lovely, showing Freeman's incredible talent for cropping and composition.Above all things it's a very creative book, from a very talented and creative photographer. It's a book for those who have some knowledge of photography and want to know more about studio and professional work. Please try again. Please try again. Please try again. More than 300 photographs, maps, and line drawings--along with details of the procedures and improvisations that went into play--tell the history of this incredible success. A leading authority on WWII aircraft and their pilots (the author of six books on this division alone) discloses the operational techniques of bombers and fighters; the background behind weather and photographic reconnaissance; the secrets of special operations; as well as experimentation, training, logistics, and more.

He made the break from there in 1971 to travel up the Amazon with two secondhand cameras, and when Time-Life used many of the pictures extensively in the Amazon volume of their World's Wild Places series, including the cover, they encouraged him to begin a full-time photographic career. Since then, working for editorial clients that include all the world's major magazines, and notably the Smithsonian Magazine (with which he has had a 30-year association, shooting more than 40 stories), Freeman's reputation has resulted in more than 100 books published. Of these, he is author as well as photographer, and they include more than 40 books on the practice of photography - for this photographic educational work he was awarded the Prix Louis Philippe Clerc by the French Ministry of Culture. He is also responsible for the distance-learning courses on photography at the UK's Open College of the Arts. Stan Lesky 5.0 out of 5 stars Here are the details on how the Mighty Eighth became the unrelenting force against Nazi Germany. Mistakes were made. But the leaders of the eighth learned from them and overcame the obstacles. Here in the War Manual is how it was done. Details are many. Historians, roleplayers and reenactors can read about the planning before a mission. You can read about the tactics used by 8th AF bombers in 1942, then later in 43, 44 and 1945. How they evolved from a lose squadron formation to 1,000 bomber combat boxes escorted by 700 to 800 fighters. Diagrams are included. Even the Summer 1944 radio callsigns for 8th AF Squadrons are listed. The Equipment list is staggering. Not only familar aircraft such as the B-17, B-24, and the P-51 are listed, but also comparatively unfamiliar types in US inventory like the Lysander and the Lockheed Hudson. Gunsights, bombsights, radars, radios, flight suits, machine guns. It's all here!! 5 stars aren't enough. We made sure that we were helping out on the weak side, on the dump ins, and we just gave 100 percent effort.” However, Manual stiffened inside as the game moved along, and Moses struggled the rest of the game by scoring just eight more points and tallying two more boards. Manual used Chilton, who plays an undersized center, to stretch the floor and knock down shots.

Arriving at the Anomalous Materials department, he and his team perform an experiment on sample GG-3883 in Sector C 's Anti-Mass Spectrometer. The experiment goes wrong and triggers a Resonance Cascade. As a result, the space-time continuum is ruptured, allowing alien lifeforms to enter the Black Mesa facility. They immediately start killing any humans they can find. Freeman manages to survive the chaos, impressing the few surviving scientists and security guards with his acts while quickly becoming the HECU's top priority target. However, Freeman fights his way through them and continues on his journey across the facility.Barney sees Gordon waiting for the tram on a ledge Barney passes by. A few moments later, Gordon can be seen riding by. He is also seen heading towards the HEV storage area through a surveillance camera. Lastly being dragged to a trash compactor by a pair of HECU marines.Like the ending of the original game, the scene is somewhat inexplicable and psychedelic, with the G-Man's face in extreme close-up fading in and out of visibility over backgrounds representing scenes from the original Half-Life as well as scenes Gordon, will visit in the course of Half-Life 2. One Citizen remarks that he did not see Freeman get on the train, implying that he was brought onto the train in the middle of its journey (through G-Man's unknown abilities). Freeman quickly learns that Earth has been conquered and occupied by the trans-dimensional Combine empire. He soon meets up with Barney Calhoun and Alyx Vance and eventually joins the Resistance against the Combine. After slaying scores of Combine soldiers and leading an assault against the Combine stronghold of Nova Prospekt, Gordon eventually sparks a full-scale rebellion against the Combine domination, in which he becomes a prominent combatant.

Gordon infiltrates one of the Combine's footholds on Earth, the City 17 Citadel, and destroys its teleporter core by detonating the dark fusion reactor, rendering the Citadel inoperable. Thus, Half-Life 2 concludes just as cryptically as its predecessor did.It is quickly revealed that the only way to escape the Citadel's explosion, which would obliterate virtually all of City 17, is to contain the Citadel Core which would stall the structure's detonation long enough for an escape. Gordon and Alyx attempt to do so, discovering in the process that the local Combine forces were deliberately trying to overload the Citadel's reactor in order to send a distress message to the Combine Overworld since the teleport core had been destroyed in Half-Life 2. Gordon and Alyx avert the destruction for a few hours and manage to escape the Citadel with a copy of the distress message and meet up with Barney and other survivors.Evidently, the Combine message is successfully transmitted while several Combine Advisor pods escape from the Citadel at great speed. The train carrying Freeman and Alyx is still close to the city and is hit by the shock wave as the Citadel is destroyed. Their subsequent fate is revealed in Episode Two.The train Gordon and Alyx were escaping on was caught in the shock wave from the Citadel explosion and derailed. Gordon and Alyx crawl out and begin to make their way to White Forest, the Resistance base where Dr. Eli Vance, Dr. Issac Kleiner, and Dr. Arne Magnusson are waiting for them, encountering many obstacles on the route. Alyx is saved through the use of a miraculous larval extract that Gordon retrieves from the Antlion hive for the Vorts. He requests that Gordon safely escort her to White Forest as repayment for his own survival without explaining the reasons. Once Alyx recovers, they make their way to White Forest.

Ammunition, grenades and first aid kits need to be put on your Belt in order to use them Squads will be deployed near the Deployment Zone (The Green Area on the map). To relocate a squad, just drag the selected squad around the deployment zone. Newly placed squads will be marked black as they are not deployed to the battleground yet, you need to press the Deploy Button on the left or close the Strategy Map so they will be deployed into combat. The total amount depends on your Commanding Skill. You can assign as many waypoints as you want. If you want them to move at full speed, click the Charge button on the left. The Red Zone on the skirmish map represents enemy army's destination. It is the place where most combat will take place. The Red Zone will also be placed randomly. The more troops you put inside of the Red Zone, the faster you will gain Victory Points. When your VPs reached maximum you win the siege. The more enemy troops inside of the Red Zone, the faster you will lose Victory Points. When you have zero VPs you will lose the territory. Enemies come from random directions. The appropriate options will be displayed. If a faction is friendly or neutral, you can use all of the town's amenities. Otherwise, you have to pay a toll to pass through unmolested or attack. You can collect tax and build new constructions in your own towns. When you start out, you have a measly pistol and two squads of soldiers. Use your immediate funds to recruit another unit at a nearby town, then prey on the various bandits prowling the map. The number by the character identifies the number of enemy combatants. Try to fight enemies that are as close to your strength level as possible. While scouting for the enemy, put squads on Cease Fire and use Charge to move quickly between cover.

Once you make contact, consider the tactical situation first - and ensure you won't be surrounded within minutes of opening fire. You can still win a battle if you lose your squads. If you die in the middle of a heated battle however, the remainder of the battle will be automatically resolved - not necessarily in your favor. This will save a lot of money in the long run. Weapon mods are the exception - once you get a rifle, grab a scope as soon as possible. This is helpful for larger squads and for better unit micro management. He is a theoretical physicist who is forced to defend himself and the Human race against hostile Aliens and other enemies following an experiment gone wrong. In the process, he becomes an almost legendary resistance hero, eventually becoming one of the leaders of an uprising against the alien occupiers.Eventually, he becomes disappointed with the slow pace of teleportation research in academia and begins to search for a job outside the education sector. By coincidence, Freeman's MIT mentor Dr. Isaac Kleiner has taken charge of a research project at a government-owned, integrated research facility known as the Black Mesa Research Facility and offers Freeman a job.Despite having obtained a Ph.D. from the prestigious MIT, the laboratory work that the player actually does as Freeman (pressing a button and pushing a cart) does not require any intellectual expertise at all (Though it is possible that all of his intellectual expenses happened before the events of the game). Indeed, Gordon and Barney crawled through numerous ventilation shafts in Half-Life and Half-Life: Blue Shift respectively. He is 30 minutes late.

Then, on the road, the two encounter a radio tower and Alyx decides to send a warning about Combine forces they had witnessed heading in White Forest's direction. They linger for too long, however, and are ambushed by Hunters.Gordon is then required to deal with a Combine Autogun while Alyx and the rebels repair their car. The Combine then set up a force shield ambush at the White Forest Inn where Gordon and Alyx are outnumbered and surrounded but manage to fight through. The data reveals the existence of the Borealis, an Aperture Science vessel thought to have been lost and containing some sort of advanced portal technology that Dr. Kleiner insists should be used against the Combine while Eli, haunted by the Black Mesa Incident, insists upon its destruction.Fortunately Dog reappears in time to rescue Alyx and Gordon from the same fate. The episode ends with Gordon looking over Alyx weeping over her father's body, with the possibility that the Combine have now learned everything about the Resistance, the Borealis, and, debatably the G-Man, through Eli.The G-Man had grown displeased with the lack of progress Gordon had apparently made as well as his refusal to obey orders, and Alyx would be a suitable replacement for him. His HEV Suit has been damaged from the Advisors' attack.Dog then shows up carrying Gordon's signature crowbar. After the Combine invasion of Earth, Gordon once again worked alongside him, this time in the Resistance. Kleiner feels genuine concern for Gordon on his travels, yet still foolishly puts Lamarr first on a few occasions. That was the last Eli would see of Gordon until he showed up at Black Mesa East nearly twenty years later. They forged a stronger bond throughout Episode One and Two, due to the fact that Alyx was with Gordon most of the time. At one point in Episode Two, shortly before his death, he tells Gordon not only about his encounter with the G-Man but also that he could not be prouder of Gordon if he were his own son.

Alyx says to Gordon that he probably does not remember her, indicating he briefly met her (likely at Black Mesa) when she was an infant. But after going through such intense life and death combat situations and other hardships, they have forged a very strong relationship with each other. Alyx has shown affection to Gordon several times throughout the series: Twice giving a sad goodbye at an elevator, and hugging Gordon when Dog pulls him from the rubble at the beginning of Episode One.They also see each other once in Half-Life and Blue Shift, Barney's background having been retconned in Blue Shift and Half-Life 2. In the Combine-controlled world, Barney, undercover, saves Gordon from a terrible fate when Gordon nearly boards a train to Nova Prospekt. Gordon then joins Barney in assisting the Resistance. As of now, he still owes Gordon a beer.In the aftermath of the Citadel's collapse, Gordon becomes an assistant to the Doctor at White Forest in order to get the rocket being constructed there into space. Near the end of Episode Two, Dr. Magnusson finally has to swallow his pride and actually show appreciation to Gordon for what he did.Gordon won out with his Innsbruck experience, and even later during the Combine occupation she is still jealous, at least according to Alyx. However, what is known is that the G-man has displayed great interest in Gordon before the Black Mesa incident and he has started to Adrian Shepard that he has respect for those who survive against all odds, to which Gordon is no exception. This is later shown when G-Man drops Gordon from his employment when feeling he wasn't performing the tasks laid out for him by G-Man and ended up being replaced by Alyx Vance. This is most likely an intentional choice so that he is not regarded as a separate character outside of the player's influence. Since the start of Half-Life, Valve has made sure that the player's and Gordon's experiences are one and the same.

An example of Valve's player strategy is shown during the scene in Eli's lab.The glasses are also found only in the Opposing Force model. This may be related to the end of the Half-Life chapter Apprehension, during which Freeman experiences the same thing, and maybe related to a cutscene feature, not present in the final games. This is a rather ironic title to be given to Gordon since he is 'involuntarily' serving the G-Man. On the other hand, it does make sense in that Freeman unknowingly sets the Vortigaunts free from the Nihilanth in Half-Life and sets humanity (and their new Vortigaunt allies) free from the Combine rule in Half-Life 2.This is not seen in its entirety by the player because the G-Man is blocking Alyx's view. After the Resonance Cascade, the Thermos fell on the floor and the diploma fell on its face. However, his body can be destroyed. On the left, Pvt. Gordon and on the right, Pvt. Freeman.A character who looks similar to Freeman can also be seen sat at a computer in the Market Station.A reference to both Half-Life and Portal. A weekly paper known as the Houston Informer was published by C. F. Richardson, Sr., from 1919 until January 3, 1931, when the paper was acquired by attorney Carter W. Because the FreeMASTER tool is fully compatible with the communication interface provided by the old PC Master drivers, it is strongly recommended to upgrade the existing embedded applications to the new FreeMASTER driver. The main advantage of the new driver is the unification across all supported NXP processor products, as well as several new features that were added. One of the key features implemented in the new driver is the Target-Side Addressing (TSA) which enables an embedded application to describe the memory objects it grants the host access to. The FreeMASTER Serial Communication Driver package includes example applications for the latest public release of Kinetis SDK. The example applications are available in the form of a.zip file which must be extracted into the SDK installation. 10 NXP Semiconductors 11 Introduction NOTE The FreeMASTER Serial Driver contains simple built-in device drivers for all communication peripheral modules and is not dependent on the Kinetis SDK drivers. However, the Kinetis SDK HAL drivers are used in the Kinetis example applications to initialize the clock subsystem and pin multiplexing and to set up the communication parameters (such as the baud rate, FIFO buffering, or signal polarity). 1.5 FreeMASTER Processor Expert component Both the CodeWarrior and Kinetis Design Studio IDEs provided by NXP contain a graphical configuration extension called Processor Expert. The Processor Expert initialization components can be used to simplify the MCU device and peripheral configuration process and to make the application integration with the FreeMASTER serial driver easier.

The two approaches may be mixed in an application. The callback commands do not appear in the polling mechanism. The pipe callback handlers are invoked whenever new data are available for reading from the pipe. The following sections briefly describe all FreeMASTER features implemented by the driver. See the PC-based FreeMASTER User Manual for more details on how to use the features to monitor, tune, or control your embedded application Board Detection The FreeMASTER protocol defines the standard way in which the host PC reads the platform-specific information needed to access the target resources. The board information includes these parameters: The version of the driver and the version of the protocol implemented. Communication buffer length. Address space granularity (1 B on most platforms; 2 B on 56F8xx DSP). The device response frame must fit into the outgoing communication buffer. To read a device memory of any size, the host uses the information retrieved during the Board Detection and splits the large-block request to multiple partial requests. The Variable Read feature is a slightly optimized variant of the Memory Read protocol feature. It enables reading 1-, 2-, or 4-byte variables while saving one byte on the communication line Memory Write Similarly to the Memory Read operation, the Memory Write feature enables to write any RAM memory location on the target device. A single write command frame must fit into the target communication buffer, which is needed to split the large write requests into smaller ones. A slightly optimized Variable Write variants exist to write the 2- and 4-byte variables Masked Memory Write To implement the write access to a single bit or a group of bits of target variables, the Masked Memory Write feature is available in the FreeMASTER protocol. Except for the AND-mask applied to the data values being written, this feature is similar to a standard Memory Write.

See the Peripheral Init Components and the FreeMASTER Component in the Processor Expert suite. NXP Semiconductors 11 12 Chapter Introduction This section shows how to add the FreeMASTER Serial Communication Driver into your application and configure and enable the connection to the FreeMASTER visualization tool. 2.2 Features The FreeMASTER driver implements all the features necessary to establish the communication to the FreeMASTER visualization tool. The driver is a newly rewritten (backward compatible) version of the older PC Master driver, adding the support for new platforms, a better code structure and readability, and also new features such as the Pipes, Target-Side Addressing (TSA), TSA-Safety, and Application Command Callback functions. Atomic bit manipulation on the target memory (bit-wise write access). Oscilloscope access optimized real-time access to up to eight variables. The sample rate depends on the communication speed. Recorder the access to the fast transient recorder running on the board as a part of the FreeMASTER driver. The sample rate is only limited by the MCU CPU speed. The length of the data recorded depends on the amount of available memory (up to 64 KB). Application commands high-level message delivery from the PC to the application. TSA tables describing the variables, files, or hyperlinks exported by the target application. Pipes enabling the buffered stream-oriented data exchange for a general-purpose data exchange. The FreeMASTER driver features: Full FreeMASTER protocol implementation. SCI as a native communication interface. CAN communication interface for platforms with the FlexCAN, MSCAN, or MCAN modules. LIN communication interface for the HCS12Z platform or other platforms where the standard LIN driver API is supported. The standard MQX serial driver is used instead of the direct peripheral access. Ability to write-protect memory regions or individual variables. Ability to deny the access to the unsafe memory.

The sampling times were measured with the 56F8013 test application running at 32 MHz with eight 16-bit variables sampled: The Fast Recorder is not used. The sampling time is approximately 27 s. The Fast Recorder is used with the configurable variable count and addresses. The threshold-crossing trigger is not used. The sampling time is 3.5 s. The Fast Recorder is used with the hardcoded variable addresses and no trigger capabilities. The sampling time 2.16 s. Same as with the standard Recorder feature, this is an optional feature and can be disabled. The Fast Recorder feature is supported only on the 56F8xxx platforms TSA With the TSA feature, you can describe the variables and structure data types directly in the application source code and make this information available for the FreeMASTER tool. The TSA feature enables you to create the so-called TSA tables, and put them directly into the embedded application. The TSA tables contain the descriptors of variables that you want to make visible to the host. The descriptors can describe the memory areas by specifying the address and size of the block (or more conveniently using the C variable names directly). You can also put the type information about the structures, unions, or arrays into the TSA table. 14 NXP Semiconductors 15 In the driver version 1.8.2, the new TSA table entries are supported to describe the memory-mapped files, virtual directories, or web URL hyperlinks. These new objects enable the target application to provide the whole graphical active content for the PC host-side tool TSA Safety When the TSA is enabled in the application, the TSA Safety can be enabled and make the memory accesses validated directly by the embedded-side driver. When the TSA Safety is turned on, any memory request received from the host is validated and accepted only if it belongs to a TSA-described object.

A slightly optimized Masked Variable Write variants exist to write the 1- and 2-byte variables. NXP Semiconductors 13 14 2.2.5 Oscilloscope The protocol enables up to eight variables to be read at once on a single request from the host. This feature is called Oscilloscope and the FreeMASTER tool uses it to display a real-time graph of variable values. This is an optional feature. If it is disabled, FreeMASTER uses the standard Memory Read or Variable Read accesses to read the graphed variables sequentially Recorder The protocol defines a standard way of selecting up to eight variables on the target whose values are periodically recorded into the dedicated on-board memory buffer. After the data sampling stops (either on a host request or by evaluating a threshold-crossing condition), the data buffer is downloaded to the host and displayed as a graph. The data sampling rate is not limited by the speed of the communication line, so it enables displaying the variable transitions in a very high resolution. This is an optional feature and can be disabled if it is not needed in the application Fast Recorder Similarly to the other features of the Serial Communication Driver, the Recorder feature is implemented in the C language and the code is common for all supported platforms. Such a general implementation brings some run-time overhead which can be unacceptable in applications where very short measuring cycles are required. The Fast Recorder implementation is designed to address this requirement. The behavior of the Fast Recorder is similar to that of the standard Recorder, but it is implemented in the assembly language and optimized separately for different platforms. The code of the Fast Recorder sampling routine is split into a few atomic parts which can be selectively excluded to achieve a better performance. The following scenarios are possible with the Fast Recorder.

A LIN driver with the standard Transport Layer API must be compiled in the application too. Note that a special LIN communication plug-in for the FreeMASTER tool is required on the PC side. A compatible USB driver must be compiled in the application too. Note that this interface supports all FreeMASTER features in the same way as the SCI or CAN interfaces do. The default value is true. Note: This configuration option is supported by the Kinetis platform. This feature enables calling the application callback function in the interrupt communication handler. With the debug transmission enabled, it is simpler to detect problems in the baudrate or other communication configuration settings. The test frames are transmitted until the first valid command frame is received from the PC Host tool. The test frame is a valid error status frame, as defined by the protocol format. The host uses this information to draw the x-axis of the recorder graph properly. Use 0 as unknown (the x-axis is drawn indexed-only). FreeMASTER v (or higher) is required. Note: This configuration option is supported by the 56F8xxx platform. The host can t access the memory not described by any TSA descriptor. The actual result depends on your linker settings or the linker commands used in your project. The FreeMASTER protocol commands carrying 16-bit addresses are also called standard or non-ex. The EX commands differ from the standard commands only in using 32-bit addresses. The EX commands are always two bytes longer than their standard counterparts. Note: Although being configurable items, it is not recommended to specify these two parameters in the configuration file. The default values of both options are defined in the platform-dependent header file and it should not be necessary to override them manually. The light version of FreeMASTER uses less RAM and flash memory and enables you to limit the FreeMASTER functionality.

This value represents the value of samples to be acquired after the trigger event and can t be changed by FreeMASTER. For a standard functionality where the pre-trigger samples are set by the FreeMASTER tool, define this value as 0. The default value is 0. Note: Keep this value lower than the Recorded samples value configured in the FreeMASTER tool Specify the hardcoded constant number of the Recorder time divisor in the Recorder function. This value represents the time base multiple of the sampling period. Because the protocol execution may be a lengthy task (especially with the TSA-Safety enabled) it is recommended to use this mode only if the interrupt prioritization scheme is possible in the application and the FreeMASTER interrupt is assigned to a lower (the lowest) priority. Note3: The BDM and Packet-Driven BDM interfaces don t support the interrupt mode. The interrupt processing is relatively fast and deterministic. Upon an SCI receive event, the received character is only placed into a FIFO-like queue and is not further processed. Upon a CAN receive event, the received packet is stored into the receive buffer. When transmitting, the characters are just fetched from the prepared transmit buffer. Note3: The BDM and Packet-Driven BDM interfaces do not support the interrupt mode. An application interrupt can occur in the middle of the Read Memory or Write Memory commands execution and corrupt the variable being accessed by the FreeMASTER driver. In these two modes, it is not recommended to use FreeMASTER to visualize or monitor the volatile variables (those being modified anywhere in the user interrupt code). This is why the driver code uses the privately-declared data types and the vast majority of the platform-dependent code is separated in the platform-dependent source files. The data types used in the driver API are all defined in the freemaster.h master header file and the other private data types are defined in the platform-specific header file.

The TSA entries can be declared as Read-Write or Read-Only so that the driver can actively deny the write access to the Read-Only objects Application Commands The Application Commands are high-level messages that the host may deliver to the embedded application for further processing. The embedded application can either poll the status, or be called back when a new Application Command arrives to be processed. After processing, when the embedded application acknowledges that the command is handled, the host receives the Result Code. Both the Application Commands and the Result Codes are specific to a given application and it is user s responsibility to define them. The FreeMASTER protocol and the FreeMASTER driver only implement the delivery channel and a set of API calls to enable the Application Command processing Pipes The Pipes enable the buffered stream-oriented data exchange between the PC Host and the target MCU. Any pipe can be written to and read from at both ends (either on the PC or the MCU). The data transmission is acknowledged using the special FreeMASTER protocol commands. It is guaranteed that the data bytes are delivered from the writer to the reader in a proper order and without losing any of them. The Pipes require FreeMASTER version 2.0 (or higher) to be used on the PC Host computer. 2.3 Driver files After installing the software, the driver source files can be found in the driver folder, further divided into the subfolders. There is the freemaster.h master header file and the platform-dependent.c and header files. The.c file must be added to the project for compilation and linking. The freemaster.h file must be included in your application wherever you need to call any of the FreeMASTER driver API functions. freemaster.h master driver header file, which declares the common data types, macros, and prototypes of the FreeMASTER driver API functions. This file contains the inline assembly code and macros used to compose the fast sampling code.

This file uses the SCI or JTAG module access macros from the platform-dependent header file (see above). This file uses the FlexCAN, MSCAN, or MCAN module access macros from the platform-dependent header file (see above). When the Recorder is disabled by the FreeMASTER driver configuration file, this file only compiles to empty API functions. In case the Oscilloscope is disabled by the FreeMASTER driver configuration file, this file compiles void. See FreeMASTER for Embedded Applications (document FMSTERUG) for more details on this feature. When the Application Commands are disabled by the FreeMASTER driver configuration file, this file only compiles to empty API functions. This feature enables the FreeMASTER host tool to obtain the TSA memory descriptors declared in the embedded application. In case the TSA is disabled by the FreeMASTER driver configuration file, this file compiles void. It is used internally by the Fast Recorder implementation, if this is enabled. The C compiler must locate the configuration file when compiling the driver files. Typically, this can be achieved by putting this file into a folder where the other project-specific included files are stored. The configuration file must be placed at the project-specific location, so that it does not affect the other applications that use the driver Processor Expert configuration tool Using FreeMASTER in applications created using Processor Expert is very easy thanks to a special FreeMASTER component. In the component catalogue, locate the FreeMASTER component and add it to the project. The component enables you to set up both the communication parameters and FreeMASTER-specific options. The others must be defined to zero or left undefined. The non-zero-defined constant selects the interrupt mode of the driver. This interface is also good for the Kinetis LPSCI module. Note that a special CAN communication plugin for FreeMASTER is required on the PC side. The default value is false.

There are no global variables used in the driver. When the SCI module is used as the FreeMASTER communication interface, configure the SCI receive and transmit pins, the serial communication baud rate, the parity (no-parity), the character length (eight bits), and the number of stop bits (one) before initializing the FreeMASTER driver. When the CAN module is used as the FreeMASTER communication interface, configure the CAN receive and transmit pins and the CAN module bit rate before initializing the FreeMASTER driver. On some NXP platforms, there are user-friendly graphical tools that enable a convenient way to configure the processor peripheral modules. NOTE It is not necessary to enable or unmask the SCI interrupts (TIE and RIE bits), nor it is necessary to activate the SCI receiver or transmitter engines (TE and RE bits) before initializing the FreeMASTER driver. A typical place to call the Recorder routine is at the timer or PWM interrupts, but it can be anywhere you want to sample the variable values. If used in this way, the NXP Semiconductors 25 View more Why, When, Which, How? Why, When, Which, How. Looking at the User Manual, it appears they're even referencing an old version of FreeMASTER (v1.3), so it's not clear how frequently anyone even looks at this stuff. Or is there a FreeMASTER community page. Personally, i only tried HTML and JS. Pershaps you can use just JS and create an xls from with the data you need. Petr Fajmon Can you recommend someone who has experience with such techniques. First, I have FreeMASTER 2.0 open - I've successfully communicated with my target via both CAN and UART, so no issues there. At this point I just have the application open, not communicating to the target. Thanks! Actions Related Content Retrieving data. But numbers can be transformed into pictures and graphs which can make complex things and relationships easier to understand. Verifying proper functionality of a PID closed loop controller or watching sensor values with a nice plot is definitely something very useful. Would it not be great to watch sensor data changing over time in a chart like the one below? But even better, if this could be done directly with data provided from the target board. If you think this is hard to do, then I can show you how this can be done in a few steps with the help of a very nice tool: FreeMASTER ?? FreeMASTER is provided for free-of-charge on the Freescale web site (requires registration). There seems no uniform spelling of FreeMASTER. Even Freescale uses different spelling (FreeMaster, FreeMASTER, PCMaster, so do I in this post too. More about this at the end of this article. Jim Trudeau wrote a great article about the capabilities of FreeMASTER which is a starting point. Similar to the comments on his blog, I have not found I have not found good documentation or tutorials how to use it. This is very I hope I can close a gap. As a reader of my blog and as intern at Freescale, he explored FreeMASTER and he provided me important tips and ways how to use FreeMASTER. Without this, I would not have been able to use FreeMASTER or to explore the features easily.I promise: it is indeed a great tool, it just needs some learning. And a tutorial ?? So if you are using Linux, you are (yet again) not covered ?? To communicate between the microprocessor and FreeMASTER, I’m using the OpenSDA USB CDC (serial over USB) connection. As starting point, I’m using the project I had created in a tutorial about how to use the accelerometer.

So if you are not going to use the Processor Expert component (I’m going to use below), then you can use the files in this package to be incorporated into your application. In order to view my variables, they need to be global variables. They just need to be present in the Dwarf (Debug Information) of the application binary file. It can be found in the Components Library view in Processor Expert: Then I configure a suitable baud (9600 baud in this example) with divisor and oversampling ratio values as below. Why is it not possible to set up the desired baud as in the AsynchroSerial component. And with this way of component, it is not possible to say use USB or CAN? Unfortunately I have not found a way to get rid of these warnings. Even if I’m using the functions, the warnings do not go away. More about this later). For this, a variable needs to be at a fixed address. Accessing local variables on the stack does not make sense, as the memory address will change all the time. Therefore, any variable I want to watch, needs to be a global one. But it is more user friendly to find the address of the memory location, based on the variable name. For this I add extra code to make accelerometer values global: But if you want to monitor local ones, then you need to make them global. Please refer to the project sources on GitHub. As a result browsing Libraries in Windows 7 or 8 will not work, so you need browse to the absolute drive path. Generate is a better way in my view as it automatically populates the settings with the settings from the debug information. And I have my variables listed in the variables list: For example the sampling period can be changed: It can be changed in this dialog to a signed fixed point type (or any other type) as needed. So do not forget to save your settings on a regular base. That way the path to the.elf file will be relative to the project root, and allows easier sharing of the file e.g. in a version control system.
